Vacation for the Mind
Many of us take ‘vacations’ but not all of us consider the rejuvenating experience of taking a vacation for the mind. Lymies in particular have a mind that never stops. I know, I remember. The life of a Lyme warrior is a never-ending mental slog. Am I right? What is that new pain in my ribs? Did I remember to take my meds this morning? Can I eat this? Should I drink that? I hope I can sleep tonight. My night sweats are worse, what does that mean? It never stops.
Part of the healing process is recognizing when your body, mind and soul have been overtaxed. It’s knowing when you need to rest and allow all of yourself to recuperate. Well, I realized today that I have never truly ended my interminable dive into Lyme disease. My mind and soul have never truly left that space. I choose to stay here in order to be a beacon for the Lyme community. And I am so glad that I did. However, even I need to recognize my limits and step back. Before you get worried, I am coming back. I simply recognized recently that I need a vacation for my mind.
Ever since I was pronounced in remission from Lyme disease, even before that during my battle, I knew I needed to share this journey towards wellness with the world. Not just for my own state of mind but in honor of all of you still in the midst of your battle. I have been here faithfully every week for the past year in hopes of bringing you a sense of community, safety and recognition of your fears and loneliness. For the two years prior to my starting this blog I was toiling away over my memoir, The Battle Within: My Lyme Story. I sincerely hope that I have helped you to feel less alone in your struggles. And, if you haven’t done it yet, I hope that you’ll purchase my book.
New and exciting material to come in the new year
While I totally love being here with you it is taxing to keep myself immersed in my sufferings of Lyme disease. I will be on vacation through the holidays but I plan to return with lots of new and exciting ideas to share with you. During my mental vacation I will still be working hard, reading and researching in order to bring you new and enlightening posts. I hope to share with you new ideas for coping, meditating and moving through your journeys with grace and dignity.
It has been an absolute honor to write and share my experiences with you over the past year. I look forward to coming back with a renewed vigor! While I’m take this short hiatus, in order to bring you new and exciting material, I hope you’ll catch up on some of the older stuff you may not have read yet. In the meantime, stay strong warriors and Happy Holidays!!
